I provide a variety of services.
Therapy and Psychological Testing/Evaluations
I conduct psychological evaluations. These evaluations include developmental batteries, intellectual and achievement tests, mental status examinations, cognitive tests, personality tests, and diagnostic assessments. The type of evaluation is determined by the referral question which can be a brief diagnostic consultation or a full psychological evaluation.
I evaluate and treat patients through a variety of methods, most typically being psychotherapy or talk therapy. Treatment goals are individualized to meet unique treatment needs. Patients usually visit me because they have been experiencing depression, anxiety, stress or anger for a significant period of time and are seeking help.
Children, because of their developmental age, experience difficulty in verbal expression of feelings. I use play therapy to allow children to express feelings more easily through toys instead of words. Play therapy gives children an opportunity to express feelings and work through problems in a way that comes natural to them.
Family therapy helps family members to improve communication and resolve conflict. In many instances I use family therapy to address a specific problem, such as an adolescent with behavior problems or adjustment to a change or death in the family. Communication issues are addressed by analyzing the process of family interaction and communication as a whole.
Couples therapy which is sometimes referred to as marriage counseling is a form of therapy that is used to treat relationship distress for both individuals and couples. The goal of therapy is to improve the couples' relationship. Although the focus is on the couple, there are times when the individual psychological issues of one or both parties need to be addressed
Group therapy is intended to target a specific problem such as grief or psychological problem. Group can act as a support network and a sounding board. Listening to others helps a person to put his/her problems in perspective. Often times you may feel like you are the only one struggling- but you are not. It can be a relief to hear others discuss what they're going through and realize you are not alone.
